Timberline High School students staged a walkout following violent threats and voyeurism allegations involving a football team group chat, prompting the district to cancel its homecoming game against Kuna. In separate cases, Boise police arrested a chiropractic clinic worker on child sexual exploitation charges, while Meridian authorities charged a woman with murder in the death of her infant son.

In brighter classroom news, Washington Elementary educator Amanda Holland was named the 2027 Idaho Teacher of the Year as the district grapples with enrollment drops. On the gridiron, Boise State football preserved the Milk Can with a 38-31 victory at Fresno State, earning a fifth straight win to sit at twenty-third in the AP Poll.

Bronco men's basketball opened exhibition play by defeating Idaho 82-72 at Idaho Central Arena, while the volleyball team logged its tenth sweep of the season against Fresno State. Boise State women's soccer dropped a 1-0 match to seventeenth-ranked Utah State, while esports head coach Doc Haskell announced he is stepping down after seven national championships.

Treasure Valley homebuyers face mortgage rates hovering around 7.3 percent even as regional housing inventory climbs. The National Weather Service issued a frost advisory as nighttime temperatures drop to 35 degrees, before daytime highs climb back to 75 degrees by Friday. The Boise School District has paused its ChatGPT Edu rollout to establish guidelines required by a new state law governing artificial intelligence in education. Tech chief Will Goodman is seeking teacher feedback while the district also navigates trimmed behavioral health grants and a three percent enrollment drop. Boise Police are currently investigating online threats at Timberline High School and warning residents about bank card fraud after arresting a suspect who allegedly used local payment data to evade bank alerts.

Boise State women's soccer collected its eighth consecutive victory, shutting out Gonzaga 3-0 on Sunday. Bronco football claimed its first Pac-12 conference win by beating Utah State 37-18 to improve to 4-1, slipping to twenty-third in the AP poll, while volleyball swept Texas State.

Mortgage rates climbed to 7.28 percent in October, holding Boise's average home price near $503,000 amid a lean inventory of 841 listings. With fifty new residents arriving daily, local buyers are turning to liability swaps and seller-funded rate buydowns to ease steep monthly payments.

A major commute change began today as the Eckert Road Bridge closed through summer 2028 to rebuild crossings over the Boise River and Ridenbaugh Canal. Ada County highway crews are also scheduling nighttime paving on Cole Road between Victory and Overland, alongside paving near State Street and Pierce Park Lane.

Highs in the mid-to-upper eighties will linger through Friday before a sharp weekend drop brings rain chances and a Sunday high of sixty-three. Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal head-on collision on State Highway 21 east of Lowman that left a 32-year-old Caldwell woman dead and three others airlifted to local hospitals. Meanwhile, a neighboring West Ada municipality voted to remove automated license plate reading cameras over privacy concerns, and Boise police arrested three additional suspects tied to a fatal North Duncan Lane stabbing.

On the field, the Boise State Broncos broke into the AP Top 25 at number 22 following a 32-7 road victory over Western Michigan. Quarterback Maddux Madsen threw three touchdowns and Dylan Riley ran for 138 yards, preparing the team to host Utah State on the Blue to kick off conference play.

Facing roughly 9,000 empty seats due to declining enrollment, the Boise School District is weighing a facilities plan that would move ninth graders into high schools and sixth graders into junior highs. Newly elected trustee Andy Hawes faces spirited public debate over potential building closures, boundary adjustments, and repurposing surplus facilities for community programs.

Treasure Valley real estate is cooling into a selective market as inventory nears 3,900 homes, mortgage rates climb to 7.19 percent, and more than 500 listings saw price cuts last month. Locally, new dining arrivals include European deli Schnitzel Fritz downtown and Betty’s Café on the Bench, serving breakfast pastries and French press coffee.

Construction on the State Street and Pierce Park Lane intersection aims to restore left turns by late October, with asphalt paving scheduled to begin shortly. Drivers can expect clear skies and dry conditions this week, with highs reaching 75 degrees before climbing into the lower 80s by Friday for Old Boise Oktoberfest and Caldwell's Dog-Tober Festival.

Southwest District Health is promoting local mental health resources for National Suicide Prevention Month, urging residents to recognize community challenges like isolation and the rising cost of living.

Boise School District enrollment fell by 699 students this fall, extending a decade-long drop that has shrunk the student body by 22 percent since 2015. With incoming kindergarten classes lagging behind graduating seniors due to declining birth rates and high housing costs, the district is hosting Master Facilities Plan public meetings Tuesday, both virtually at noon and in person on Milwaukee Street.

On the blue turf, Boise State football defeated South Dakota 38-24 at Albertsons Stadium to move to 2-1 on the season. Dylan Riley fueled the offense with 198 rushing yards, punctuated by an 83-yard fourth-quarter touchdown run.

In real estate, regional mortgage rates climbed back to 7.17 percent, while Boise's median sold price hovered near $525,000. Buyers gained negotiating room, however, as active listings across Ada and Canyon counties reached nearly 3,800 and 420 sellers lowered their asking prices over the past week.

Downtown drivers face a closure on 10th Street between Jefferson and State streets through next Monday for private construction, while Ada County Highway District crews realign State Street and Pierce Park Lane for late September asphalt paving. Meanwhile, unseasonable heat brings highs reaching 91 degrees Thursday before a slight chance of Friday showers cools the weekend into the mid-70s.

Weekend festivities include Old Boise Oktoberfest at Sixth and Grove, Nampa's Civic Center celebration, and a car-free community gathering hosted by the Boise Bicycle Project on Catalpa Drive.

A legal resolution has also been reached concerning a domestic incident involving a Meridian resident. The Boise School District is swearing in new trustees, including Andy Hawes, and will hold community meetings next week for feedback on facilities plans. The Idaho School Boards Association is preparing legislative priorities for the 2027 session, addressing educational content regulations.

Commuters should note new road construction. Work starts at Fairview and Liberty, and paving is underway on Resseguie. The 8th Street project downtown, between Main and Idaho, has an extended delay as crews ensure quality standards.

The local dining scene is growing, with Walkin Takos opening its first restaurant on Orchard Street. The Boise Post is now open on the sixteenth floor of the AC Hotel, offering panoramic views. Matteo in Barber Valley is also gaining local buzz.

Looking ahead, the community calendar is full. The Boise Pride Festival takes place Friday through Sunday at Cecil Andrus Park, while Julia Davis Park hosts the Fall Arts and Crafts Festival. Boise Police are investigating a public safety incident on North Duncan Lane following an altercation at a house party. Authorities are seeking information from those present. This follows a related public safety incident on Clement Road in late August, where an individual was recently questioned. Police request rideshare drivers in the Clement Road area around 2-6 a.m. during that time to check dashcam footage.

Boise State played a competitive football game against Oregon, with a final score of 34-27. In local governance, Andy Hawes was elected to the Boise School District Board of Trustees. The district faces declining enrollment, and facilities planning meetings will begin September 22nd to discuss building utilization.

The Treasure Valley's median home price is now $545,000, up nearly seven percent, with Eagle's median at $980,000. Boise homes sell quickly, typically in eight days. Middleton saw increased sales volume and a slight price decrease. New restaurants include Saltbrush downtown, Coa Cantina in Harris Ranch, and The Boise Post rooftop restaurant.

Local traffic is impacted by several road projects. 10th Street between Jefferson and State is closed until September 28th. Construction on State and Pierce Park Lane continues, with paving due mid-September, and Cole Road near Overland is being reconstructed. The weather features pleasant fall temperatures, starting at 71 today and reaching the mid-80s by Thursday, with cool 50s at night. Local news this week highlighted a variety of community updates, from an unusual wildlife visitor downtown to important public safety advisories. Residents are encouraged to stay informed on ongoing developments impacting daily life and upcoming events.

The Boise Police Department issued a significant public safety alert regarding online dating. The department advises individuals using dating applications to meet in public places, avoid sharing home addresses, keep personal drinks in sight, and prioritize personal comfort and safety by leaving any situation that feels concerning. This advisory follows an increase in investigations related to online interactions. Additionally, a public safety incident involving a holiday display downtown has prompted organizers to consider relocating a significant annual event to Expo Idaho, focusing on community safety for future traditions.

Infrastructure developments continue across the region. Emergency water main repairs led to intermittent ramp closures at the Garrity Interchange in Nampa, with repaving work also causing temporary disruptions. Motorists are advised to check current traffic conditions. Positive news includes the completion of traffic shifts on State Highway 16 and 44, improving flow in that area. Groundbreaking for new supportive housing projects also took place on August 12th, aiming to address community housing needs.

In education, the Boise School District welcomed students back, with Pre-K and Early Childhood programs commencing on Monday, August 17th. Wendy Johnson began her tenure as the new Superintendent, bringing three decades of experience. An individual in Boise or Garden City also celebrated a significant Powerball prize. An unusual wildlife sighting occurred last Wednesday when a moose was observed downtown; authorities safely returned the animal to its natural habitat. The local housing market shows continued activity, with median prices in Boise around $545,000, reflecting a five percent increase from the previous year, and Nampa reporting an increase in housing inventory.

Looking ahead, the Western Idaho Fair is scheduled to begin this Friday, August 21st, offering various attractions and entertainment. Other local venues, like Bluebird Social and the Saturday Farmers Markets, provide additional community engagement opportunities. Weather forecasts indicate rising temperatures, with highs potentially reaching ninety-eight degrees later in the week. The National Weather Service advises residents to take precautions during the hot, dry conditions, and regional fire preparedness is underway with Canadian airtankers stationed locally.

Evacuation orders related to the Bear Run Fire in Duquette Pines were lifted over the weekend, as fire crews successfully contained the incident's progress. Residents are advised to monitor local conditions. The region is experiencing a heat advisory with temperatures exceeding one hundred degrees, alongside an air quality alert due to patchy smoke. Community members are encouraged to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours.

Progress continues on significant community infrastructure projects. The 1010 Jefferson project downtown is moving forward, slated for completion in Fall 2027, and will include new parking facilities, commercial spaces, and a YMCA center. Separately, a section of the Greenbelt is temporarily closed for improvements near Boise State University, aiming to enhance accessibility. In Meridian, construction has begun on a second large retail warehouse location, with an anticipated opening in late 2026.

Authorities are actively investigating a recent public safety incident on the Greenbelt, which has prompted discussions among local officials regarding urban safety measures. In an unrelated event, authorities also responded to a traffic altercation over the weekend where a vehicle impacted a residential structure; no residents inside the home were reported injured, and an individual is under investigation. In positive community news, Cassandra Wagner of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County was honored as an AC Boise Community Impact STAR for her dedication to local youth.

Looking ahead, the San Inazio Festival, a significant Basque celebration, is scheduled for downtown, offering cultural activities. 'Music on the Mountain' will take place on July 25th at Bogus Basin, providing a cooler alternative for outdoor enjoyment. In local sports, AC Boise has achieved recent victories against Portland and Sacramento Republic FC, showcasing strong performances. The community also remembers former Boise State head coach Lyle Setencich, who recently passed away at eighty-one.

The Claremont Fire continues in the Boise Foothills. Firefighting efforts were temporarily paused due to the discovery of unexploded munitions in the area. Crews have since re-engaged, and the fire is now 58% contained. Investigators have confirmed the incident was human-caused, and authorities are requesting public assistance with the ongoing investigation. Residents in proximity to the foothills should remain vigilant and heed safety advisories.

Recent police activity on the Boise Greenbelt has led to increased public discussion regarding safety. Authorities responded to an aggravated assault and attempted kidnapping incident. A separate investigation involves a resident, prompting enhanced police presence along the Greenbelt to ensure community well-being. City officials are working to reassure residents about the continued safety of public spaces.

The Boise School District is engaged in ongoing discussions with the Statehouse concerning new reporting requirements for staff conduct and whistleblower protections, with a focus on student safety protocols. The community continues to mourn a recent public safety incident involving a juvenile and an e-bike, highlighting the importance of road safety. Additionally, cooling centers, such as Corpus Commons, are facing challenges in providing relief to vulnerable individuals during the current heatwave, impacted by new local ordinances.

Despite challenges, local community events offer positive engagement. Bluebird Social is hosting the final World Cup watch parties this weekend. AC Boise soccer is celebrating a strong season with recent victories. The Boise Hawks will honor Blitz the Bat Dog's retirement this Saturday, July 18th, with a special celebration at Memorial Stadium. Residents should anticipate significant road construction delays on State Street and Shoreline Drive. The National Weather Service forecasts a prolonged period of high temperatures, with daily highs expected in the 90s and low 100s for the coming week. Pond One at Esther Simplot Park has elevated E. coli levels, prompting advisories for water activities. In legal proceedings, an individual involved in a public safety incident related to the assault of juveniles has been removed from the community for an extended period. Additionally, a roadway incident on July 3rd, involving an e-bike and a motorcycle, led to serious injuries for a juvenile and hospitalization for others. Community members are urged to remain vigilant and prioritize safety on all roadways.

Environmental concerns are also at the forefront, with wildfire activity near Kuna Butte burning over two thousand acres. Evacuation orders related to this incident have been lifted, and full containment is expected soon. In response to recent low snowpack, the city has adopted a Drought Emergency Ordinance to safeguard the local water supply, encouraging residents to conserve water.

Boise continues to see significant development and growth. St. Luke's Boise Medical Center recently marked a major construction milestone with the 'topping out' of its new nine-story hospital tower, designed to enhance capacity and services for the community's evolving healthcare needs.

In public safety, legal proceedings concluded regarding a previous incident at a local financial institution, reinforcing community security. Residents are urged to prepare for a significant temperature increase this week, particularly leading into the holiday weekend, with forecasts indicating highs in the 90s by Sunday. Hydration and seeking shade are crucial. The public is reminded to exercise extreme caution with fireworks due to dry conditions, utilizing official displays to prevent public safety incidents.

Local infrastructure continues to recover from recent weather events, with the Ada County Highway District actively cleaning up following last week's significant storm. The Boise School District is managing the aftermath while proceeding with summer learning programs. On a lighter note, Zoo Boise welcomed a new Red Panda, increasing their delightful population to four. In sports, AC Boise secured a 1-0 victory, and the Boise Hawks achieved a 4-3 win, adding to the community's athletic spirit.

The city's growth remains a central focus, influenced by major projects like the expansion of the Micron campus, expected to bring thousands of new residents and impact traffic and infrastructure. While the real estate market shows 'normalizing' signs, affordability remains a key concern. In response, the city is acquiring land for future affordable housing initiatives, reflecting a commitment to supporting diverse housing options for residents.

Boise recently celebrated a significant sports victory as Athletic Club Boise secured a one-to-zero win over Union Omaha, drawing a record-setting home crowd. This success highlights the growing engagement in local soccer. The community also observed the fifteenth annual Return of the Boise Valley People gathering, an event dedicated to honoring the cultural heritage of the area's indigenous tribes. Adding to the local flavor, Spud Daddy has opened in BODO, offering unique potato-based dishes, becoming a notable new dining option downtown.

However, residents are navigating ongoing infrastructure projects, including a new bridge repair project along the Greenbelt, affecting pedestrian and cyclist access near the river. Motorists and pathway users are advised to check for closures and detours. In Meridian, a public safety incident involving a residence led to the displacement of ten individuals, though no physical injuries were reported. Authorities are reviewing the circumstances, and the community is reminded to practice fire safety, especially with increasing dry conditions. Separately, Asana Climbing Gym in Garden City announced its upcoming closure at year-end, citing lease negotiations.

Discussions are also underway regarding educational initiatives, as the school district moves forward with "development centers" for early learners, part of a broader "community classroom" approach. A recent meeting provided parents of Owyhee Elementary students with updates, though some concerns about the process have been voiced. Furthermore, new housing developments are proposed, including a 211-home subdivision in Meridian and approximately 300 new apartments on the Boise Bench, reflecting continued community growth and evolving property values.

Looking ahead, the community calendar is busy. The Boise Music Festival is scheduled for Saturday at Expo Idaho, featuring multiple artists. Also on Saturday, the Roosevelt Market Block Party will offer live music and local vendors in the East End, while Eagle Fun Days kicks off in Eagle with a parade planned. Residents attending these events, or navigating daily commutes, should be aware of several critical traffic updates, including closures on Shoreline Drive and ongoing work on State Street near Pierce Park Lane, which has eliminated left turns in the area. The National Weather Service forecasts rising temperatures into the low nineties mid-week before a chance of showers and cooler temperatures arrive by the weekend, prompting reminders to stay hydrated and take precautions against the heat.

Residents are encouraged to participate while staying hydrated, as high temperatures are expected. The Wassmuth Center for Human Rights is also celebrating its thirtieth anniversary this month, planning a public event in downtown Boise to mark three decades of community education. Recently, the 35th annual Art and Roses event at Julia Davis Park drew a positive turnout, celebrating local artistry.

The situation involved an individual driving in a manner that required attention from law enforcement, emphasizing the importance of road safety for all residents. Additionally, an early morning house fire on Saturday in South Boise resulted in a family being displaced from their home. The community is reminded of the importance of fire safety and support for neighbors during challenging times.

Local news includes the U.S. Department of Education's approval of a waiver for Idaho, aimed at streamlining federal school funding. In financial matters, Ada County is currently evaluating potential adjustments to property taxes to support ongoing community services and infrastructure. Drivers should also be aware of the ongoing summer road construction, which includes activity on State Street and may affect local traffic. Planning routes accordingly and exercising patience in construction zones is advised.

In local sports, Athletic Club Boise concluded a match against Forward Madison FC on Saturday, June 13, with a final score of five to one. Boise State Football's 2026 schedule has been released, marking their first season in the Pac-12, with 18 players named to the Phil Steele Preseason All-Pac-12 teams. Manager Sean Persky will return to lead the Boise Hawks for the 2026 season, while the Idaho Steelheads have announced their protected list for the upcoming 2026-27 season.

Local courts are currently addressing significant legal matters that could shape community policies. Two federal trials have commenced, with one focusing on a state measure related to medical procedures. Arguments are being heard regarding patient safety and the professional autonomy of medical practitioners. Concurrently, another trial is examining a recently enacted law concerning public accommodation facilities, with discussions centered on its practical implementation and constitutional aspects. These proceedings are anticipated to generate considerable public interest and discussion.

Separately, the city council has taken steps to address community housing needs by approving the purchase of an undeveloped parcel on North Cole Road. This acquisition is part of ongoing efforts to expand the availability of housing options for residents. In a related public safety update, following a recent vehicle incident near Cascade, authorities conducted a recovery mission. An individual was located downstream, and the community is reminded to exercise heightened caution around local waterways, especially with current conditions.

Regarding community infrastructure, residents can expect continued road work across the area. Significant activity is reported on State Street near Pierce Park Lane, requiring drivers to adapt to adjusted traffic patterns. Additionally, road maintenance programs are underway county-wide, and the Boise Avenue bridge project has recently concluded. On a lighter note, several new businesses, including Spitfire Tacos and Tequila in Garden City and Vessel Kitchen in Eagle, are opening their doors. The Boise Hawks baseball season is ongoing, offering local entertainment, and the Boise Flea is scheduled for this Sunday. Looking ahead, the week's weather forecast indicates a notable increase in temperatures, with highs expected to reach the mid-nineties. A brief respite with cooler temperatures and potential rain is anticipated later in the week before warmer conditions return. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions during periods of high heat.

Authorities are investigating a public safety incident that occurred yesterday afternoon on Highway 55 near milepost 93. A vehicle traveling northbound veered into oncoming traffic before entering the North Fork of the Payette River. Witnesses observed an individual in the water.

The incident prompted significant road closures for several hours, impacting Sunday commutes from the mountains. Recovery efforts are underway, with discussions of adjusting river levels to assist. Motorists traveling on Highway 55 are advised to maintain vigilance and adhere to traffic regulations.

In significant community development, Micron is proceeding with a substantial fifty-billion-dollar expansion in Southeast Boise, which company representatives have described as creating a 'little city.' The project includes a massive 'fab' facility stretching over a third of a mile, a seven-story office building, and a daycare facility. This growth is anticipated to bring thousands of jobs and substantial economic activity to the region.

The expanded corporate presence is already influencing the local real estate market. With an influx of new workers expected over the next decade, housing inventory is tightening, and the median sold price for homes is approximately five-hundred-twenty-two-thousand dollars. This trend suggests a competitive market for residents seeking to purchase homes.

Regarding a public safety incident from Nampa in 2022, court proceedings have concluded for individuals involved. One individual received a significant sentence following the incident, which resulted in injuries. Another individual was also sentenced and is concurrently serving time for a separate incident that occurred at the Grove Plaza in Boise. The court emphasized the serious nature of the events, and statements were heard from families impacted.

In local education news, Boise School District graduates are celebrating their achievements, collectively securing over seven million dollars in scholarships. The district is also launching a 'Get Ready for Kindergarten' camp this Wednesday through July 2nd, offering support, breakfast, lunch, and transportation for young learners. Additionally, summer programs for older students, including credit recovery options like 'IGNITE' for high schoolers, commence tomorrow.

The local restaurant scene is experiencing changes, with Dong Khanh, a Vietnamese establishment operating in Boise since 1991, relocating to Meridian on Topaz Avenue, with an anticipated opening on June 23rd. Meridian will also welcome Xin Chao, a new Vietnamese restaurant on Eagle Road. Meanwhile, the Chef's Hut is moving from Cole Road to Orchard Street this fall, planning to include a dog-friendly patio.

For sports enthusiasts, the Pac-12 conference has released kickoff times for the 2026 season. Boise State will begin its season on the road against Oregon on September 5th with an afternoon game broadcast on CBS. Several games will also air on USA Network, CBS Sports Network, and The CW.

Commuters should note ongoing Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) work on I-84. Crews recently addressed lane markings to improve traffic flow and safety between Meridian and Nampa. Repaving of this stretch is slated to begin around June 8th, with most work scheduled for overnight hours to minimize disruption. Drivers should anticipate potential delays and exercise caution.

Looking ahead, the weather forecast for the coming week promises pleasant conditions, with highs in the mid-seventies today and climbing into the eighties by Wednesday, bringing plenty of sunshine. Towards next weekend, some showers are possible, particularly to the north. Meanwhile, Twin Falls recently concluded its Western Days celebration and will host the 'Art and Soul of the Magic Valley' from this Friday, offering three weeks of art and cultural events.

The region experienced unseasonable weather this past Memorial Day weekend, with a significant late-May storm bringing snow to mountain areas and strong winds to the city. Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts as temperatures are expected to fluctuate significantly in the coming days, with a notable drop mid-week.

Authorities responded to several public safety incidents over the holiday period. These included serious traffic altercations, such as a collision between a sedan and a commercial vehicle in one instance, and a separate serious collision involving a juvenile motorcyclist at a recreation area. Additionally, police in Caldwell are investigating a report of a missing juvenile who might be in danger. Community members are encouraged to exercise caution and report any information to local law enforcement. Further court proceedings are underway concerning a public safety incident that occurred on the Payette River.

The Boise School District is actively developing its ten-year facilities master plan. Discussions are underway regarding building conditions, funding, and enrollment trends, with efforts to gather input from the community and students. Several new establishments have recently opened or relocated. The Boise Post, a new rooftop dining experience downtown, has seen high demand. Descanso opened on the Greenbelt in Garden City, offering a new patio option, while Cán Coctelería debuted as a refined speakeasy. Tango's Empanadas, a long-standing local favorite, has relocated a few blocks south on Orchard Avenue.

In local sports, Athletic Club Boise recently concluded a six-game unbeaten streak with a loss to Fort Wayne FC. The Boise Hawks are currently hosting a homestand at Memorial Stadium, featuring promotional nights including "Boise Battle Beavers" Outdoor Night this Saturday, which pays tribute to a unique local historical event. The 44th annual Boise Greek Food Festival is scheduled for this Friday and Saturday at the Greek Orthodox Church on Bannock. This popular community event offers cultural performances and a variety of traditional foods, with proceeds supporting local charities, including the Boise Food Bank.

Local infrastructure continues to be a focus, with discussions surrounding new apartment developments in Meridian. Residents have expressed concerns regarding potential impacts on traffic and existing infrastructure. The real estate market in Ada County is currently experiencing what experts describe as a period of normalization. Median home prices are reported to be around $490,000, with inventory increasing to over two thousand active listings, providing more options for prospective buyers. Interest rates remain a key factor in the current market landscape.

All four crew members safely exited the aircraft and are reported to be in stable condition. The remainder of the air show was promptly cancelled as investigators examine the circumstances. Separately, Boise Police are investigating activity at a closed local business, which occurred early Monday morning.

In community news, the 'Youth Ride Free' program is providing complimentary bus passes for persons aged 18 and under throughout the summer. This initiative, by Valley Regional Transit and the city, aims to increase access to transportation for minors in Boise, Garden City, Meridian, Nampa, and Caldwell, with nearly 800 participants already enrolled. Additionally, the Boise Hawks baseball team will begin their season tomorrow at Memorial Stadium, with a special opening night promotion.

Residents should prepare for cooler, breezier conditions this week, with recent wind gusts up to sixty miles per hour. Temperatures are expected to remain in the high sixties and low seventies. Community members are advised to secure outdoor belongings. Travelers are also reminded of ongoing road construction impacting several key areas. Paving operations are underway near State Street and Pierce Park Lane, requiring traffic shifts. The Boise Centre is exploring a significant expansion to enhance its capacity for conventions and athletic tournaments. This initiative aims to increase the venue's competitiveness and ability to host multiple large-scale events simultaneously. In local public safety news, the police department has achieved an eighteen-month period without discharging a firearm in a situation involving an individual. This development is attributed to evolving tactics and the increased use of less-lethal options. Meanwhile, the Boise School District is actively engaging with students and community members to develop a ten-year plan for its facilities, addressing demographic shifts and future educational needs. The district is also implementing a new athletics registration system, "Rank One," this month.

Authorities responded to a public safety incident on May 5th in a parking lot on the 3200 block of South Vista around midnight, where an individual reportedly attempted to commit a property crime. Police are investigating and seeking information regarding a person of interest. In local business developments, a new "Southwest kitchen and bar" concept called Cactus is set to open in the former P.F. Chang's location in BoDo later this fall. Additionally, local establishment The STIL is expanding to Eagle this month, taking over a former creamery spot in partnership with Bumble Coffee. Residents can look forward to several upcoming community events, including the Famous Idaho Potato Marathon on May 16th, the 208 Night Market at Shindig Farms this Friday and Saturday, and Idaho's Largest Garage Sale at Expo Idaho on Saturday.

Commuters in Eagle should anticipate temporary impacts as paving work begins this week on Linder Road, specifically between Floating Feather and Highway 44. This project involves adding a roundabout and multi-use pathways, aiming to improve infrastructure in the area. Drivers are encouraged to exercise caution and plan for potential delays during this period. The local real estate market continues to see notable trends, with the median home price in Ada County rising to $654,000, a four and a half percent increase from the previous year. Inventory remains low, indicating an active market for properties. Looking ahead, the weather forecast for the week suggests a cooling trend, with highs expected to settle into the mid-seventies by May 18th, offering pleasant conditions for outdoor activities after a recent period of warmer temperatures.

Local news highlights significant developments this week, from ongoing public safety investigations to changes in the educational system and persistent shifts in the local housing market. Residents are also advised of continuing road construction impacting daily commutes.

An update has emerged regarding a public safety incident on the Payette River last summer. An individual involved, identified as a local official, has filed a countersuit, alleging they were responding to unsafe conduct during an altercation that resulted in injury to a juvenile. The incident is currently under review by a special prosecutor, examining the initial handling of the case.

Starting July 1st, all K-12 classrooms across Idaho will implement a sixty-second moment of silence at the beginning of each school day, following the signing of House Bill 623 by Governor Little. This time is intended for students' reflection, meditation, or prayer. Educators have expressed mixed reactions, with some questioning the practical implications and potential effectiveness of the new mandate within school environments.

Boise continues to be recognized as a highly attractive metro area, reporting a significant influx of new residents during the first quarter of the year. This trend contributes to a competitive housing market, with homes quickly going under contract. Meanwhile, infrastructure projects are ongoing, with State Street near Pierce Park Lane undergoing widening to seven lanes, and variable speed limit signs being installed on Eagle Road between Franklin and Chinden to manage traffic flow.

In other community news, an individual from Eagle recently received a substantial sentence following an investigation into the distribution of illegal substances. On the local sports scene, Athletic Club Boise continues to draw significant crowds, celebrating its third consecutive sold-out home match and setting new attendance records. Finally, the annual 'Idaho Gives' campaign is underway, inviting residents to support local non-profit organizations through Thursday.

The community is reflecting on the passing of former Governor Dirk Kempthorne, a significant figure in local and state politics who served in various capacities, including Mayor of Boise and U.S. Senator. His contributions included leading the restoration of the Idaho Capitol. Flags may be displayed at half-staff as a tribute.

In infrastructure news, the final design phase for raising the Anderson Ranch Dam by six feet has been completed. This enhancement is projected to increase water storage capacity, benefiting approximately twenty-nine thousand households. Additionally, the federal government is advancing discussions regarding compensation for individuals affected by historical radiation exposure in the region, known as 'Downwinders'.

Local authorities responded to a public safety incident in Owyhee County involving a high-speed vehicle pursuit that concluded with an individual being addressed. Separately, officials are advising residents in Owyhee County about the anticipated return of Mormon Crickets, which can affect travel conditions and local environments. The Parma Fire District is also engaging with the community to secure support for a one-million-dollar levy to maintain essential staffing and equipment.

On a positive note, Boise Brewing earned a silver medal at the World Beer Cup for its Black Cliffs Stout, bringing international recognition to the local brewing scene. In sports, the Boise State Spring Game drew a large crowd, and offensive lineman Kage Casey was selected in the NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos. The Idaho Steelheads are currently competing in the Mountain Division Semifinals, with Game Three scheduled at Idaho Central Arena.

Community engagement remains high with events like the Junior League of Boise's 'impact walk' downtown and a successful Record Store Day at The Record Exchange. The St. Jude Dream Home raffle tickets are also available, supporting a charitable cause. Looking ahead, the weather forecast for the coming week includes mild temperatures, followed by rain on Thursday and Friday, with warmer conditions returning by the weekend. Drivers are advised to be mindful of periodic road closures and crossings involving livestock, such as the recent movement of two thousand five hundred ewes and lambs on Highway 55 and Beacon Light Road.

Residents in Idaho are observing continued increases in fuel costs, with prices now exceeding $4.30 per gallon. This trend impacts daily commutes and household budgets. Authorities note that any relief in prices is anticipated to be gradual, prompting community members to consider travel adjustments.

In a recent public safety incident, an individual's vehicle was seized following a high-speed evasion. The vehicle, observed traveling at triple-digit speeds, was subject to the state's 'Run and Done' law. This situation underscores the enforcement of traffic regulations and the importance of safe driving for all community members.

Area school districts are actively managing challenges presented by a growing student population. Discussions are underway regarding long-term sustainability plans to accommodate this influx, addressing needs for additional classroom space and infrastructure amidst budget considerations. This growth impacts educational resources and community planning.

Commuters should be aware of new lane closures and ongoing road construction projects. Fairview Avenue and the State Street corridor are experiencing significant work, which may lead to traffic delays and require adjustments to travel routes. Residents are encouraged to plan extra travel time and exercise caution.

The week's weather forecast indicates a mix of conditions, with a sunny start followed by scattered showers and cooler temperatures mid-week. Residents planning outdoor activities should monitor forecasts. Various community events are also scheduled, offering engagement opportunities.

The local real estate market continues to experience a unique period, characterized by available listings but cautious buyers due to current interest rates. This dynamic reflects ongoing adjustments in housing affordability and availability for community members.

This week on "Happening in Boise," Mark and Joleen covered a range of local issues, starting with a large protest downtown. Over five thousand people gathered at the Capitol to express their concerns about recent legislative actions. The protest followed the passage of House Bill 572 and also highlighted concerns about an abortion initiative.

The hosts also discussed Senate Bill 1412, which addresses school reporting procedures, requiring schools to report allegations of abuse to law enforcement and adds whistleblower protections. The bill passed unanimously in the House.

In other news, Boise Police are investigating a recent increase in vandalism at construction sites, including significant damage to a home on East Orion Court. Authorities are encouraging contractors to implement security measures.

On a brighter note, Superintendent Debbie Critchfield secured funding for special education in Boise and West Ada school districts. The funds will support aides for high-needs students.

The episode also featured a glowing review of Alyonka Russian Cuisine on State Street and an update on Athletic Club Boise, the city's new professional soccer team, which is preparing for its home opener at the remodeled stadium at Expo Idaho. Boise is experiencing unseasonably warm weather, with temperatures reaching record highs for March. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take precautions while enjoying outdoor activities. ACHD has announced ongoing road work, including lane restrictions on the Boise Avenue bridge and overnight closures on Karcher Road in Nampa, which may cause traffic delays. Eagle Road will also have variable speed limits active.

New legislation was recently signed. There are also discussions regarding school policies and textbooks. West Ada is moving forward with a "Campus Sentinels" plan to bring armed volunteers or staff into schools. Boise School District continues to deal with an ongoing lawsuit.

A public safety incident occurred near a Mountain Home high school. Authorities responded, and an individual is in custody. In Boise, a traffic signal was damaged at a major intersection, and a traffic incident in West Boise resulted in a loss of life. Officials have identified the individual involved in the traffic incident.

The real estate market shows signs of change, with inventory up and prices slightly down. New construction makes up a significant portion of available homes, and builders are offering incentives. Pending sales are up, indicating continued buyer activity.

Several events are scheduled, including the Boise Flower and Garden Show and the upcoming Treefort Music Fest. The Idaho Steelheads are playing the Tulsa Oilers at the arena. These events promise entertainment and activities for the community.

The Happening Network reports on several local developments. A controversial incident occurred at the Statehouse during a hearing on immigration. An individual appeared in what was described as offensive attire, sparking debate among lawmakers and the public.

The potential for increased gas prices due to a proposed tax by Utah was also addressed. Idaho officials voiced strong opposition, threatening legal action and raising concerns about water rights. An agreement was eventually reached, averting the price hike.

In education news, the Kuna School District has hired a new superintendent. This individual's previous involvement in a poster controversy in West Ada has raised questions among parents and community members. The district faces challenges with rapid growth and competition from charter and private schools.

Local soccer team, Athletic Club Boise, is preparing for its season opener. The team has signed a second local player and launched a new beer with a local brewery. Expectations are high as the team prepares for its debut. Several road construction projects are underway, including work on Edgewood Lane and Hill Road, which may impact traffic. The Idaho Legislature's Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee approved additional funds for the State Tax Commission while also implementing budget cuts for many state agencies. These changes aim to align with federal tax policies, but may impact public services. Tuition assistance for National Guard members was notably rejected.

Nampa is grappling with an increase in traffic incidents. Recently, a police vehicle was struck by a suspected impaired driver. Authorities are urging residents to utilize ride-sharing services to prevent further incidents and ensure public safety.

The Boise real estate market is undergoing a period of 'strategic normalization,' characterized by stabilized prices and increased inventory. While this offers some negotiation opportunities for buyers, mortgage rates remain a consideration. The Boise School District is preparing for potential budget constraints. In brighter news, Boise High graduate Sammy Smith is being recognized for their achievements at the Winter Olympics.

In community news, Raibu Sushi Bar has opened on West Fort Street, and Pig Latin offers Latin American cuisine in Eagle. Acero Boards and Bottles is another dining option. The Boise State Broncos will compete against the Wyoming Cowboys at ExtraMile Arena, and the Idaho Steelheads will face the Wichita Thunder. Boise residents are facing a series of unusual challenges, starting with an overabundance of wild turkeys in the North End. Idaho Fish and Game has launched an educational campaign to discourage residents from feeding the birds, which have become increasingly aggressive. The situation has led to property damage and disruptions for postal workers and residents alike. Officials recommend using deterrents like Mylar tape and pinwheels to discourage the birds. A new city webpage has been created to deal with the "urban turkey" situation.

In other news, a resident on North Carlsbad Way caused significant damage after discharging a firearm in their condo. The incident resulted in water pipes being shot and subsequent flooding of multiple units. The Boise Fire Department responded to manage the flooding, and authorities are investigating. The incident has raised concerns about safety in the area.

The West Ada School District is facing a federal lawsuit from a teacher who resigned after being told to remove "Everyone is Welcome" posters. The lawsuit challenges a state law restricting flags and banners in schools, claiming it infringes on First Amendment rights. The district had argued that the posters crossed a political boundary.

Additionally, construction is beginning on a section of the Greenbelt near Barber Park, leading to closures and detours for cyclists and pedestrians. The project, which involves replacing asphalt and adding concrete connections to the playground, is expected to last until mid-May. Finally, the weather is taking a turn for the worse, with showers and colder temperatures expected throughout the week.

Central District Health is investigating an E. coli outbreak in Ada County linked to raw milk from R Bar H dairy in Caldwell. Several individuals are ill, some hospitalized. The dairy has ceased production and pulled products. Residents are advised to discard any R Bar H milk to avoid potential health issues.

The Idaho Supreme Court upheld the Parental Choice Tax Credit (House Bill 93), which allows parents to use public funds for private education expenses. The Idaho Education Association expressed concerns about accountability and transparency.

Authorities are warning of a scam targeting individuals who have lost pets. Scammers are spoofing the Idaho Humane Society's phone number, claiming to have found the missing animal, and demanding immediate payment for its return or medical care. The Idaho Humane Society emphasizes they never request payment over the phone.

Road closures continue to impact Eagle due to bridge and roundabout construction on Linder Road between State Highway 44 and Floating Feather. ACHD is working on the project, with detours in place via Park Lane.

A bill in the state legislature proposes additional penalties for covering one's face while committing a crime, raising concerns about potential selective enforcement. A new Idaho ban on using food stamps for candy and soda is also set to take effect.

An incident occurred on State Street early Sunday morning involving shots fired at a local business. No injuries were reported. Authorities responded and are investigating. Residents and businesses are asked to check their security cameras and contact Ada County Dispatch with any footage.

The Eckert Road Bridge rebuild is scheduled to begin this October, with an estimated completion in the fall of 2028. The project includes replacing the three-way intersection at Eckert and Boise Avenue with a roundabout, adding a center lane, and creating a multi-use path to connect the greenbelt.

The city council finalized the annexation of 381 acres in Southwest Ada County for the Murio Farms development, which includes plans for 3,500 homes. Ada County Highway District has noted potential traffic congestion as a significant issue.

This weekend, SkiJor Boise is making its debut at the Ford Idaho Center. The Boise Philharmonic will perform 'The Music of Queen' at the Morrison Center. Boise's culinary scene is gaining national recognition with several local chefs and establishments nominated for the prestigious James Beard Awards. Alex Cardoza from Susina, Cal Elliott from The Avery, and Nathan Whitley from Terroir are in the running for Best Chef in the Mountain region. Ansots has been nominated for Outstanding Hospitality, and Bar Please! is up for Best New Bar.

In sports news, a Boise High graduate is heading to the Olympics as part of the U.S. Olympic Cross Country Ski Team. The athlete also competes in soccer at the collegiate level.

Authorities are investigating a traffic incident in Nampa where a driver allegedly crashed into a police vehicle and fled the scene. The incident occurred late Friday night and involved a repeat offender. The officer involved was not injured.

Two cases of measles have been confirmed in the Vallivue School District. The local health district has sent letters to parents advising them to check their children's vaccination records. The cases are linked to travel out of state.

Road construction on Ustick Road in Meridian is expected to continue through the summer, causing significant traffic delays. The project involves widening the road to five lanes and adding new traffic signals and pathways.

A recent report indicates that the Boise real estate market continues to defy national trends, with home ownership remaining more expensive than renting in Ada and Canyon counties.

The Idaho legislature is in session, with debates already heating up over budget priorities. While revenue projections are surprisingly optimistic, proposed Medicaid cuts are raising concerns about access to dental care and at-home support. Democrats are also calling for a pause on the new school voucher program, citing worries about potential misuse of funds.

The Boise School District is planning a public meeting to discuss the process for replacing the retiring superintendent. Meanwhile, the West Ada School District re-elected its board chair and vice-chair, ensuring stability in leadership.

Traffic was significantly impacted this past weekend due to the closure of eastbound I-84 for the installation of girders for the Highway 16 interchange. Officials anticipate continued closures over the next three years as the project progresses. In real estate news, the rental market is experiencing a downturn, with Boise rents falling faster than in most major cities. This has led to a pause in some new apartment projects.

In dining news, a new high-end steakhouse, El Gaucho, has opened in downtown Boise. The Idaho Steelheads hockey team suffered a 5-1 loss in Orlando, Florida, but will return to Boise for home games this weekend against the Allen Americans.

For weekend activities, residents can attend the Steelheads games or participate in a snowshoe adventure at Mores Creek Summit. The weather forecast predicts a week of mostly gray skies, with a slight chance of rain later in the week.

The Idaho Legislature has begun its 2026 session, introducing new laws, including one requiring insurance coverage for additional breast cancer screenings and another simplifying the homeowner's tax exemption application process. An anti-SLAPP statute is also now in effect, offering protection against frivolous lawsuits targeting public participation. These changes occur amidst potential budget constraints, with Representative Josh Tanner taking over as co-chair of the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee, signaling possible spending cuts.

In local news, authorities responded to a traffic incident on State Street where a driver allegedly drove off the road, resulting in a pedestrian incident. The driver is under investigation. Separately, the Ada County Sheriff's Office made an arrest related to an incident on New Year's Eve. The Boise School District saw the dismissal of misdemeanor charges against a former teacher in a case related to the Gavin Snow investigation. The Treasure Valley Math and Science Center is accepting applications for the upcoming year.

Rosa, a new taco restaurant in Garden City from the Wylder Hospitality Group, is generating positive reviews for its scratch-made tortillas and casual atmosphere. Boise State's basketball team experienced a mixed start to the year, while the Idaho Steelheads split their series with the Rapid City Rush. Road construction is temporarily paused, offering a brief respite. Housing market data indicates a slight increase in average sold prices in Ada County, with homes remaining on the market for an extended period. Boise residents are facing a jolt to their wallets as Idaho Power implements a rate increase starting January 1st. The proposed increase, a settlement agreement from an original request, will result in an approximate 7.5% hike for customers, translating to about $12 more per month for the average household. Idaho Power cites capital investments, grid upgrades, and wildfire prevention as the reasons for the rate adjustment.

The Boise School District recently celebrated achievements within its community. Student artists were recognized for their contributions to the annual Winter Card Art Contest, with a fourth-grader from White Pine Elementary receiving the grand prize. Additionally, a staff member from Washington Elementary was honored with a 'Golden Apple Award' for their dedication. Whitney Elementary also held an 'Hour of AI' event, introducing students to the world of artificial intelligence.

In dining news, Kabob House on South Emerald is gaining recognition as a local favorite. Known for its kabobs and curry, the restaurant is praised for its polite service and focus on quality. It provides a no-frills alternative to the typical holiday meals. Meanwhile, Boise State football suffered a significant loss in the 'Bucked Up LA Bowl Hosted by Gronk', while the basketball team also faced a setback. The Boise School District has reached a settlement in a lawsuit with parents from Valley View Elementary, totaling nearly $300,000. The district has been under scrutiny regarding past incidents and is aiming to improve safety and transparency. Separately, in the West Ada School District, a former employee is under investigation following an incident reported to Garden City police. The individual is no longer with the district. The Boise School District is also providing high school students and staff with free digital access to the Idaho Statesman.

Boise State's football team has secured what's being called the highest-rated recruiting class in program history for 2026. Coach Spencer Danielson and the team have signed 29 new players, including a quarterback who had committed to Indiana. Meanwhile, the Idaho Steelheads are hosting a series of home games at Idaho Central Arena. The team will face the Rapid City Rush for three games this week.

The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) has approved a new Capital Improvement Plan, which includes increased impact fees for new construction. A single-family home will now incur a fee of approximately $5,800. ACHD is also moving forward with plans to reconstruct the Eckert Road Bridge, with construction slated to begin in fall 2026.

The Boise real estate market remains competitive, with the median sale price down slightly from last year. Homes are selling after an average of 41 days on the market. Terroir Bistro is receiving positive reviews, offering French-inspired cuisine with local sourcing. The Boise Farmers Market's Winter Market is this Saturday, and various winter solstice events are scheduled. Boise is preparing for a week of freezing temperatures, with highs in the thirties and lows dipping into the single digits. Residents are advised to take precautions against the cold, including keeping pets indoors and checking on neighbors.

Orchard Street remains closed between Overland and Targee due to ongoing water line repairs. ACHD is working on the issue, but drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes such as Phillippi Street.

The Denton Street affordable housing project on the Bench recently opened, providing new housing for families. However, the hosts noted that the new units are a "drop in the bucket" given the high median home price.

The West Ada School District is considering a new safety plan that includes hiring "Campus Sentinels" and equipping staff with "CrisisAlert" badges. The school board will meet to discuss the proposal, which aims to enhance safety in schools. There are concerns about the effect on the learning environment and the potential for overreaction.

In sports news, the Boise State Broncos are the Mountain West Champions for the third year in a row and will play Washington in the LA Bowl. The basketball team had a big road win against Butler and will face Duquesne on Wednesday. Coa Cantina, a new restaurant from the Barbacoa group, is opening New Year’s Day in East Boise. Meanwhile, another long-standing Chinese restaurant is closing after serving since 1982. Winter Garden aGlow is open at the Botanical Garden.
