An early blast of winter brought Pocatello early snowfall alongside an active Freeze Warning lasting until Tuesday morning. High temperatures hover near 47 degrees Monday with an overnight low of 34, followed by a morning rain and snow mix Tuesday before warming into the 60s by late week.

Campus excitement surged following news of a transformational gift from Idaho Central Credit Union to fund a brand-new basketball arena at Idaho State University. Across town, municipal leaders await cost and feasibility estimates due in about two weeks regarding a potential relocation for Pocatello City Hall.

Drivers face localized delays with road construction planned on Bannock Highway toward the south end of town alongside lingering work on Yellowstone Avenue near Costco. Local education also expanded as the Idaho Public Charter School Commission approved new charter schools for Pocatello and Meridian, while seniors prepared for post-graduation plans through District 25's Senior KickStart event.

Bengals football suffered a 25-24 homecoming heartbreak against Cal Poly when the Mustangs caught a touchdown pass with 40 seconds remaining before 9,483 fans. Women's volleyball swept Southern Utah as Jaydin Watts set a program single-match hitting percentage record before falling to Utah Tech, while ISU soccer followed a scoreless draw with a rainy home loss.

ISU observed Indigenous Peoples' Day with events focused on Indigenous knowledge and Tribal sovereignty. Meanwhile, locals can enjoy Detroit-style square pizza downtown at The 313, play Monday science trivia at Jim Dandy Brewing with Zoo Idaho, or applaud the state champion Pocatello High girls' basketball team.

The City of Pocatello and Idaho State University formalized their partnership on Thursday with an agreement signed in City Council Chambers. Framed as a roadmap for the future, the pact outlines collaboration on economic development, housing initiatives, and campus alignment.

Drivers face significant detours near Costco as the Idaho Transportation Department replaces concrete at Yellowstone Avenue and Flandro Drive. Eastbound traffic leaving Costco cannot turn right onto Yellowstone, and northbound drivers cannot turn left toward the store, while pedestrian crossings shift to Pearl Street. Additionally, Hiline Road remains closed on the south side of Pearl Street and El Rancho Boulevard for signal improvements.

School District 25 is dipping into reserves and evaluating route efficiency as local diesel prices reach $5.02 per gallon. Rising operating costs also prompted Pocatello Animal Services to increase adoption fees on October 1 for the first time since 2019.

In athletics, Idaho State football dropped its first game of the season, falling 38-31 to Northern Arizona despite 385 passing yards from Jordan Cooke. Bengal volleyball rebounded with a Thursday sweep of NAU and a five-set reverse sweep against Portland State, anchored by freshman libero Aspen Boice.

Pocatello has entered a buyer's market, with 3.5 months of inventory and listings averaging 58 days on the market at a $392,000 median price. Summer-like heat near 86 degrees on Monday and the low 80s mid-week will abruptly give way Sunday to 62-degree highs and a 40 percent chance of rain.

A Pocatello woman faces felony charges following an alleged knife attack on a care worker in the North End. Authorities also confirmed the identity of a local Pocatello man who died in an Interstate 15 crash last week.

Pocatello's housing market hit a 12-year low in August with only 86 homes sold during the entire month. The median price held around $342,000, with properties spending an average of 29 days on the market.

City infrastructure progressed as crews finished installing all nine girder beams on the $2.2 million West Benton Street Bridge over the Portneuf River, shifting work into the deck phase ahead of an expected late-October completion. Meanwhile, flaggers continue directing traffic through the Johnny Creek Road sewer project, which is scheduled to conclude by the end of October.

School District 25 ratified its negotiated agreement with the Pocatello Education Association amid flat state funding, while celebrating Amy Mann as the Simplot Inspirational Teacher of the Year. On the gridiron, the Highland Rams routed the Century Diamondbacks 41-7 with key contributions from Kellan Tingey and Easton Almond, setting up an anticipated rivalry game against Pocatello High.

Near the Idaho State University campus, Mexican restaurant La Reyna opened on South 5th Avenue in the space previously occupied by Azteca. This Saturday, downtown welcomes the Great Pumpkin Fest alongside the launch of the eighteenth annual Haunted History Walking Tours.

Pocatello will see sunny skies throughout the week following a slight morning rain chance on Monday, with afternoon highs near 68 degrees climbing to 78 by Friday. Pleasant autumn conditions continue into the weekend, bringing highs of 75 on Saturday and 76 on Sunday.

Two teenage boys were arrested over the weekend on felony arson charges after dumpster fires were set in Pocatello's historic downtown district. Across town, Pocatello High School's Health Professions students engaged in supervised clinical training as Southeastern Idaho Public Health guided them through essential skills like checking vitals and drawing blood.

Noticeable adjustments began Monday at Riverside Golf Course to make way for construction on the new Connections Credit Union Clubhouse. The course office and pro shop have relocated, on-site parking is restricted, and food truck operations will shift near the Hole 17 maintenance shop starting September 28.

Drivers should prepare for ongoing delays along Johnny Creek, where an active sewer project restricts traffic to a single lane managed by flaggers and temporary signals through October. City street sweepers are also circulating across neighborhoods this week to clean out gutters before the arrival of freezing winter weather.

In the local housing market, Pocatello's median home prices remain between $340,000 and $350,000, though climbing inventory is providing prospective buyers more time to consider offers. Residents can also browse peak harvest produce at the Portneuf Valley Farmers Market or catch live music and dinner at Portneuf Valley Brewing, located in the historic grain elevator.

Sunny conditions and a high near 74 degrees kick off the week before a 30 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms develops Tuesday afternoon. Temperatures quickly rebound to 77 degrees under clear skies Wednesday, climbing to 81 on Thursday and settling pleasantly in the mid-70s throughout the weekend.

Pocatello residents will observe welcome progress in the city's historic district as two major downtown construction projects, including work on Center Street and the Benton Street Bridge, have reached significant completion milestones. This development is expected to alleviate traffic congestion and improve accessibility for local businesses, a welcome change for the community as work continues toward a projected 2026 finish. While some sections are now clear, additional work remains scheduled throughout the remainder of the year.

In other news, authorities responded to a public safety incident near the Eastern Idaho State Fairgrounds. Police are actively investigating the situation, which involved multiple individuals. The incident serves as a reminder for residents to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings, particularly in crowded public spaces. Efforts are underway to address the matter, with the community's safety as a top priority.

Looking ahead to the weather, a Frost Advisory is in effect for tonight, with temperatures anticipated to drop to around 41 degrees, potentially colder in lower elevations. Residents with sensitive outdoor plants are advised to take protective measures by covering them or bringing them indoors. The week's forecast predicts significant temperature swings, moving from a comfortable 67 degrees today to a high of 82 by Wednesday, followed by a chance of showers and thunderstorms on Thursday, before settling into pleasant conditions for the upcoming weekend.

Community news highlights include School District 25 recognizing three exceptional educators with Simplot Inspirational Teacher awards across elementary, middle, and high school levels, celebrating their dedication. In sports, the Highland Rams football team experienced a narrow loss, while the Idaho State Bengals volleyball team secured a dramatic five-set victory at the Boise State Classic. The ISU football program is also gaining recognition for its strong special teams. Locally, residents can enjoy the Portneuf Valley Farmers Market on Saturday, explore City Creek trails, and try new dining options like Sumisu Sushi downtown. Benjamin Cody has officially assumed the role of principal at Century High School, marking a smooth transition for the institution. A long-time member of the administrative team, Mr. Cody brings extensive experience to his new position. In other community developments, the city of Pocatello is initiating a 10-year plan for the residential area surrounding Idaho State University. This long-term initiative aims to address growth and infrastructure needs, with authorities seeking public input to shape the future of this vital neighborhood.

Pocatello Police are issuing important public safety advisories, particularly for residents associated with Idaho State University. There have been reports of individuals receiving fraudulent calls from scammers impersonating university public safety personnel, attempting to illicit personal information or funds. Residents are reminded that legitimate authorities will not demand payment over the phone. Additionally, there are warnings about sophisticated virtual incidents utilizing technology to mimic voices of family members, demanding funds. Residents should exercise caution, verify such claims through independent means, and contact police immediately if they suspect a scam.

Ongoing infrastructure projects continue to affect local traffic. Updates include work on the Benton Street Bridge nearing completion, the anticipated reopening of East Carter Street, and continued projects at Hiline and El Rancho. Residents should also be aware of concrete work commencing on Yellowstone Avenue, which will involve single-lane closures. Meanwhile, the local real estate market is showing a balanced trend, with median home prices around $339,000 and properties remaining on the market for an average of 54 days, offering more options for buyers.

Beyond ongoing developments, Pocatello is set to host several community events. The 46th annual Pocatello Pump, a renowned rock-climbing competition, will take place this weekend at Ross Park, attracting participants from various regions. Idaho State University will also host the Bengal Block Party on Friday, concluding its welcome week with a community celebration on MLK Drive. Local sports teams are also generating excitement, with the Pocatello Thunder football team securing a recent victory, and Idaho State University's athletic programs achieving notable successes.

Pocatello Regional Airport is set to reintroduce early morning flights, with a 6:04 a.m. departure to Salt Lake City via SkyWest/Delta Connection beginning October 2nd, enhancing local travel options. A new nonprofit also launched, dedicated to fostering community connections through events and supporting local initiatives that bring residents together.

Authorities are conducting an investigation following a public safety incident in a local neighborhood this Monday morning. Police activity was observed as officials gathered information; further details are pending. Meanwhile, Pocatello School District 25 has begun its academic year, with motorists reminded to strictly observe school bus stop arm signals to ensure student safety.

Local business Himalayan Flavor is actively raising funds to assist victims of significant flooding in Nepal, showcasing community spirit. In sports, the Highland Rams football team lost 31-19. Idaho State University sports saw the volleyball team go 1-1 and soccer achieve a 3-3 draw. Former MLB All-Star Billy Butler joined ISU softball as hitting coach.

Infrastructure projects continue, with the Johnny Creek sewer expansion project progressing towards an anticipated late October completion, requiring drivers to navigate single-lane traffic. Groundbreaking also occurred for the new Connections Credit Union Clubhouse at Riverside Golf Course. The real estate market remains challenging due to low inventory and persistently high median prices.

Community events include the ongoing Portneuf Valley Farmers Market every Saturday. As Labor Day weekend approaches, residents are encouraged to support downtown businesses. The week's weather forecast predicts warm, sunny days with chances of evening showers and thunderstorms, with Saturday looking ideal for outdoor activities marking summer's transition.

Emergency services recently responded to public safety incidents in the region. An event involving a commercial vehicle on I-15 near the Portneuf Area exit prompted a response. Separately, a traffic altercation near American Falls led to three individuals receiving medical attention. These events prompt a reminder from the Bannock County Sheriff's Office for all drivers to stop for school buses as the academic year begins, emphasizing traffic safety for all commuters.

In community service news, Regence BlueShield members in Pocatello now have expanded access to Portneuf Health facilities, improving local healthcare options. Residents are advised to be vigilant against a new scam targeting older individuals, falsely promoting an 'online property tax freeze' and requesting specific personal information. The Bannock County Assessor’s Office urges residents to disregard such claims and report suspicious activity. Additionally, the new 'Pocatello - The One and Only' app replaces 'Poky Connect' for reporting local issues like graffiti and storm drain concerns, enhancing civic engagement.

Local infrastructure updates include ongoing road work, with Heise Road currently closed and the Johnny Creek project anticipated for completion by late October. Discussions are underway regarding a potential relocation of City Hall downtown, aimed at fostering revitalization. Furthermore, Chick-fil-A is projected to open in late 2026, marking a notable business development.

The community can look forward to several upcoming events. Highland High School's football team plays Eagle High this Friday, August 21st, at 7:00 PM at the Highland stadium. On Saturday, August 22nd, the Pocatello Potato Festival will be held at Lookout Point from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, offering a free, family-friendly celebration. A Town Hall meeting is scheduled for tonight, Monday, August 17th, at 6:00 PM in the City Council Chambers, featuring a budget education presentation. Weather forecasts indicate rising temperatures through the week, reaching highs near 93-94 degrees by Thursday and Friday, with chances of afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the weekend.

The City of Pocatello is moving forward with significant safety improvement projects on North Main Street, North Arthur Avenue, and Flandro Drive. These initiatives aim to enhance pedestrian crossings and optimize signal timing to improve overall traffic flow and ensure community well-being. Motorists are advised that ongoing utility and paving work on Flandro Drive may lead to traffic adjustments, particularly near the hospital and university areas, and planning routes accordingly is recommended.

In public safety news, authorities are reminding residents to remain vigilant against phone scams. Caution is urged regarding unsolicited calls claiming to be from official departments that request financial information or payments. Additionally, reports of suspicious activity in local parks encourage residents to be mindful of their surroundings and personal belongings to ensure continued community safety.

The academic year is actively preparing for fall sports, with official practices commencing this week for high school teams in football, soccer, swimming, volleyball, and cross country. Highland High School has announced its new head football coach, promoting an experienced defensive coordinator from within the program. Idaho State University's Bengals are also diligently preparing for their upcoming season.

Lastly, a local dining spotlight highlighted The Sandbagger, praised for its authentic atmosphere and hearty meals.

The local weather forecast indicates a transition this week. Bannock County Commissioners have approved a 180-day emergency moratorium on data center permits in unincorporated areas. This measure provides time to study resource impacts and develop new regulations. In local business news, the Keetch Made Farm Shop has opened, supporting sixty-five local vendors offering fresh produce, dairy, and crafts, enhancing access to locally sourced items for the community.

Authorities are investigating an incident where an individual caused damage to two public safety cameras in a local parking lot. These cameras are part of a system designed to bolster community security. In a separate matter, police are investigating a sensitive case involving a juvenile, where surveillance technology aided in identifying a person of interest. Additionally, Pocatello Police promptly addressed a reported school threat last week, maintaining a safe environment.

Idaho State University faces a potential age discrimination lawsuit, with a former events manager filing a tort claim. In positive university news, Tressa Lyman-Page, a distinguished athlete, will be inducted into the 2026 Idaho State Athletics Hall of Fame. The city is seeking public input for its 2027-2031 Housing and Community Development plan. Motorists should note ongoing water line installation and associated road closures near Howard and Gray off West Alameda Road.

Pocatello is under an air quality alert due to smoke, with a heatwave expected to bring highs into the mid-90s by Thursday and Friday, peaking near 98 degrees. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activity. Despite the heat, several community events are scheduled: the Revive at Five concert series on Wednesday, the First Friday Artwalk, the Shoshone-Bannock Indian Festival from Thursday through Sunday, and the Portneuf Valley Farmer's Market on Saturday. Pocatello law enforcement is conducting investigations into several recent public safety incidents. Last Wednesday, a traffic altercation on I-15 north of Malad led to significant road closures and required emergency response; an individual involved later passed away. Early Sunday morning, police responded to a disturbance on East Wyeth Street, initiating an investigation into the circumstances surrounding an individual found in distress. Furthermore, a residential fire from July 21st, which involved a resident's passing, is also subject to ongoing police inquiry.

On a positive note, progress is being made on community development. Phase 1 of the Highland High School rebuild is advancing, with new spaces including a six-court tennis complex and a parking lot expected to open January 4, 2027, as part of a larger reconstruction effort following an electrical fire. Downtown, Off the Rails Brewing is expanding its facilities to offer more seating and kitchen capacity. Local sports are active, with True Lacrosse Idaho holding tryouts and the Gate City Grays playing at Halliwell Park, alongside preparations for the upcoming fall football season.

The community calendar includes Montana Shakespeare in the Parks performances at Lookout Point and an Australian Pink Floyd tribute band at The Port. The Portneuf Valley Farmer's Market and Crafters Market are set for Saturday. Residents should prepare for extreme heat, with a Red Flag Warning in effect due to dry, hot, and windy conditions. An Air Quality Alert also remains. Temperatures are forecast to reach 101 degrees on Saturday. Ongoing slurry seal road work on streets like Creekside Drive may cause traffic delays. The local real estate market remains robust, characterized by high demand and low inventory.

The Happening Network delivers community updates for Pocatello. The City Council recently upheld a decision to deny an appeal for an artificial intelligence data center project in the Portneuf Valley. This decision followed a public meeting where residents expressed concerns about potential noise levels, power usage, and the project's compatibility with the area's existing character. The outcome has prompted discussions regarding potential impacts on high-tech job growth and local tax revenue.

In a related matter concerning public safety, authorities have issued a statewide alert for a local resident who has been missing since Friday. The individual has health concerns, leading to an urgent request for community assistance. They were last observed in the west bench area and may be operating a silver 2015 Honda CR-V. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any sightings of the vehicle to local emergency services.

As the summer season progresses, School District 25 has announced that registration for the 2026-2027 academic year is officially open. Families are encouraged to complete the process online, with new residents directed to the district office on Pole Line Road for registration. A reminder has also been issued for parents to ensure their children's immunization records are current before classes begin.

The community calendar features several upcoming engagements. 'Revive at Five' will take place at Lookout Point this Wednesday, offering a summer concert experience. On Thursday, a major concert event is scheduled at the Portneuf Health Trust Amphitheatre. Meanwhile, the Palace Theatre will begin screenings of 'West Side Story' this Thursday, continuing through the weekend. For local produce and goods, the Portneuf Valley Farmers Market is set for Saturday morning at Lookout Point. Additionally, local culinary scene is getting attention with positive feedback for The Three-One-Three, a new Detroit-style pizza establishment on Main Street, praised for its unique offerings and atmosphere.

Weather advisories remain a key focus for residents this week. The National Weather Service in Pocatello has issued a Heat Advisory until 8 PM tonight, with temperatures expected to reach 98 degrees. Similar high temperatures are forecast for Tuesday, accompanied by a slight chance of thunderstorms, while Wednesday may offer a slight reprieve with a high of 89 degrees and potential evening rain. Ongoing road improvements on Johnny Creek Road are anticipated to conclude by late October, with motorists advised to expect potential delays due to single-lane operations. The local real estate market continues to show stable median home prices, and plans for a new commercial establishment on the south side are confirmed for late 2026.

Pocatello recently commemorated the sealing of a time capsule at the Marshall Public Library, an artifact intended to be opened in 2076. Mayor Dahlquist attended the ceremony, marking his six-month tenure in office, during which he has emphasized addressing city challenges and fostering community improvements. Separately, authorities responded to a traffic altercation on the west bench early Monday, where an individual sustained injuries. Commuters are advised to exercise caution and allow extra travel time in the area.

Idaho Fish and Game has issued a public safety advisory concerning a health issue affecting the raccoon population in both Pocatello and Chubbuck. Residents are urged to avoid direct contact with any wildlife appearing unwell or lethargic and to ensure all pets are vaccinated. Additionally, the week's weather forecast predicts a period of high temperatures, with conditions expected to reach up to 98 degrees Fahrenheit by the upcoming weekend. Community members are strongly encouraged to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions to mitigate heat-related risks.

The Pocatello-Chubbuck School District 25 provided an update on the ongoing rebuild of Highland High School, confirming that the first phase of construction is nearing completion. The district anticipates students may be able to utilize new spaces by January 2027. Looking ahead, the second annual Neon Fest is slated for July 10th and 11th in historic downtown, celebrating the city's restored neon signage. Also on Saturday, July 11th, the Firecracker Frenzy fun run will commence at Bonneville Park, and participants and motorists should expect traffic delays near Bonneville Street, University Drive, and 5th Street.

The community of Pocatello recently concluded a bustling period, highlighted by the successful Bannock County PRCA Rodeo at the Events Complex. The event, marking its return after over a decade, awarded over $42,000 in prize money, with participants showcasing their skills in various challenging events. New Mexico's Lucas Cruz secured the All Around Cowboy prize, and Dalton Allred earned first in Bull Riding. Cru Parry and Jesse Lindsay won the Team Roping event.

In public safety news, Idaho State Police intervened following a high-speed pursuit near Pocatello, which resulted in authorities securing a significant quantity of items of concern. This action underscores ongoing efforts by the Domestic Highway Enforcement team to maintain safety on local roadways.

Updates from School District 25 include the resignation of Zone 3 Trustee Jim Facer, effective June eighth. The Board has initiated a search for a replacement, with applications due by June twenty-third, inviting community members to contribute. Additionally, the district and the Pocatello Education Association have ratified their negotiated agreement for the upcoming school year. The district attributes ongoing budget management efforts to factors such as declining enrollment and inflation. Graduation ceremonies are approaching, with New Horizon at the Wellness Complex on June fourth, and Highland, Century, and Pocatello high schools holding their commencements at the ICCU Dome on June fifth. Residents should anticipate increased traffic in areas surrounding these venues.

The Idaho State softball team's historic season, which saw them reach the NCAA Regionals for the first time after winning the Big Sky tournament, recently concluded. Despite a strong performance, the team's impressive run ended in Eugene, Oregon. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the university's athletic program. Looking ahead, numerous community events are scheduled, including the Portneuf Valley Farmers Market every Saturday at Lookout Point, a free day at Zoo Idaho on May thirtieth, and the 'Poky Paddle' community float on the Portneuf River on June third. 'Revive at Five,' featuring live music and food, is also set to begin next Wednesday at Lookout Point.

Residents should prepare for unpredictable weather, with significant temperature fluctuations and thunderstorms forecasted throughout the week. Construction and road closures are also widespread, impacting travel. Highland Boulevard will be closed between Hillcrest and Mountain Drive for sewer line replacement. East Putnam Street is undergoing a four-week water mainline upgrade, and South Fifth Street remains reduced to one lane near Piedmont Road for water line work. Repairs are also ongoing for a water main break on Pole Line Road. Drivers are advised to exercise patience and plan alternate routes.

Finally, the local real estate market shows a median list price around $355,000. The market is shifting towards a seller's advantage due to low inventory, with homes typically selling in approximately fifty days. This indicates continued competitiveness for prospective buyers.

This Saturday, Bonneville Park will host the NAMIWalks event, a 5K promoting mental health awareness and support.

Residents can expect varied weather patterns this week, with temperatures fluctuating significantly. After a warm start to the week, cooler temperatures are anticipated mid-week, with conditions generally stabilizing into the low seventies with sunny skies. Ongoing construction projects, including the Center Street Underpass and the South 5th Avenue Urban Renewal, continue to impact local traffic. Drivers are advised to be aware of lane shifts and detours, particularly with additional work on the Brennan Bridge and I-15 near the Pocatello Creek exit, as these projects aim to enhance local infrastructure.

Finally, the local real estate market shows a median listing price around $369,000. While homes are reportedly spending more time on the market, indicating a slight softening, current interest rates and prices continue to shape the purchasing landscape for residents.

This week, the community is navigating various developments, from significant national events with local ties to ongoing public advisories. The USS Idaho, a Virginia-class fast-attack submarine, was officially commissioned in Groton, Connecticut. This vessel, the fifth named after the state, represents an advanced addition to the nation's naval fleet, with Governor Brad Little attending the ceremony. Locally, residents should prepare for changing weather, with a freeze warning issued for tonight into Tuesday morning, followed by a warm-up towards the end of the week. City services are also active, as annual water flushing is underway, and several road improvement projects, including the Benton Street Bridge closure, continue to impact traffic flow. Drivers are advised to exercise caution around work crews.

Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 is addressing budget adjustments for the upcoming school year. The district anticipates a decrease in state revenue, partly due to declining enrollment, and is evaluating staffing needs accordingly. Despite these adjustments, the Highland High rebuild project remains on schedule. In related news, a school in a neighboring community experienced a temporary closure due to an HVAC system issue. The local real estate market shows varied activity; properties under a certain price point are selling quickly, while higher-priced homes may remain on the market longer. Rental prices, however, are showing signs of stabilization.

In matters of public safety, authorities are actively investigating financial discrepancies involving a former local official in American Falls. Separately, local law enforcement recently addressed a serious public safety incident involving an individual in Pocatello, underscoring ongoing efforts to maintain community well-being. These situations highlight the continuous work of local agencies to ensure the safety and security of all residents, with investigations proceeding as appropriate. The focus remains on upholding community standards and addressing concerns responsibly.

Pocatello also offers a vibrant array of community activities and engagement opportunities. The Idaho State University (ISU) softball team is set to host the Big Sky Conference Championship next week, inviting local sports enthusiasts to cheer on the Bengals. Various theatrical performances, including 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' and 'The Mystery of Edwin Drood,' are scheduled at local venues. The First Friday Artwalk is also on the calendar for those interested in local art and culture. Additionally, residents can contribute to community beautification through the 'Adopt-A-Section' initiative at the cemetery, seeking volunteers for Memorial Day preparations, fostering civic pride and collective effort.

Pocatello residents should be aware of several ongoing infrastructure projects affecting local traffic. Construction on the Benton Street Bridge over the Portneuf River has begun, resulting in the closure of West Benton between South Hayes and South Grant. This project, fully funded by the state, aims to enhance safety and increase the bridge's capacity, with completion anticipated by the end of September. Additionally, safety improvements, including sidewalk extensions and ADA ramps, are underway on North Main and North Arthur streets. On Thursday, authorities responded to a public safety incident involving a commercial vehicle on I-15 near mile marker 63, which temporarily impacted the right southbound lane. Drivers are encouraged to remain vigilant and avoid distractions while on the road.

The community is celebrating academic and athletic achievements. Several local students from various high schools have been awarded renewable scholarships from the Terry Perkins scholarship fund, a significant contribution from the Perkins family trust. In high school sports, a new head coach has been appointed for the boys' basketball team, aiming to build on recent successes. The Idaho State University softball team has also demonstrated strong performance in recent games. For those seeking local dining experiences, The Yellowstone on Bonneville Street was highlighted for its atmosphere and cuisine.

Looking ahead, residents have several community events to consider. A casual Pickleball night is scheduled for Friday at the ISU outdoor courts, requiring no registration. The Idaho State-Civic Symphony will present the Brahms Requiem at the Stephens Performing Arts Center on Friday evening. Alternatively, Royal Bliss will perform an acoustic show at the First National Bar. On Saturday, the Bengal Auction will support athletes at Phil Meador Toyota, and a free electronic waste recycling event will take place at the old ISU parking lot on Fifth Avenue, providing a convenient way to dispose of old electronics responsibly.

Weather conditions this week are expected to be highly variable, with temperatures fluctuating significantly. Monday will see highs near seventy-nine degrees Fahrenheit, but by Wednesday, temperatures are forecasted to drop into the fifties with rain, and Friday may bring snow showers with a high near forty-four degrees. Residents are advised to exercise caution with outdoor activities and consider delaying planting gardens due to potential late-season frost. In the local real estate market, conditions are described as normalizing, with the median list price in March around $365,000. Inventory remains a factor, and ISU is offering an "Adulting 101" class covering topics like purchasing a home.

The Idaho State Legislature has adjourned, passing Senate Bill 1430, which restricts the ability of local cities to enact their own gun laws. The legislature's departure is welcomed by many residents eager to resume their lives without further state-level interventions.

Last Thursday morning, a Pocatello tactical team served a high-risk search warrant on the 1100 block of East Clark Street as part of a narcotics investigation. Seven individuals were apprehended and taken to the Bannock County jail. Authorities stated there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The Marshall Public Library is partnering with Zoo Idaho to offer free family passes through the ACT program (Arts and Community Tickets), removing financial barriers for families to enjoy the zoo. Each pass admits two adults and five children, available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing this Wednesday to discuss overhauling Title 17, the city's zoning code. Changes include modernizing home occupation rules and adjusting parking standards. The public is encouraged to attend and voice their opinions on these proposed changes.

Buddy's Italian Restaurant on Lewis Street remains a local favorite, known for its classic, old-school food and especially its signature salad dressing. Pocatello is facing a number of challenges, including budget adjustments for School District 25 due to declining enrollment. The district is facing a significant decrease in state revenue, leading to a pause in the adoption of a new math curriculum. The city is also taking a "thoughtful and measured" approach to reviewing the name of Cesar Chavez Avenue following a recent investigation.

In other news, a public safety incident occurred at the Burbon Barrel Bar when an individual made claims about having explosives. Authorities responded to the situation. The Center Street Underpass project continues to cause traffic disruptions, with ongoing road closures and detours impacting local businesses. The city is hosting an open house to discuss a 10-year plan for neighborhoods around ISU, focusing on housing and transportation.

Pocatello is experiencing unseasonably warm weather, with a Red Flag Warning in effect. Residents are urged to take precautions to prevent fires. The National Weather Service advises caution due to hot, dry, and windy conditions. Record-breaking temperatures are expected, with potential highs near eighty degrees. Hydration is key.

The state of Idaho is facing a significant budget deficit. This comes after recent tax cuts and funding for private school vouchers. Increased gas prices are also impacting residents.

School District Twenty-Five has announced that kindergarten registration opens this Friday. Spring Break begins next Monday. The district is continuing its 'Mayor's Million Minute Marathon' reading challenge. The Highland High rebuild is ongoing with an estimated completion in 2027.

Road construction is underway in the area. Water and street crews have switched to summer hours. A bridge replacement project is starting in Blackfoot on the Riverton Road Bridge. The Center Street underpass project continues, with work focused on shoring and the pedestrian bridge. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

The local real estate market is described as neutral. Home prices are up, but homes are selling faster. One investment site advises against buying property in the area right now.

Pocatello is facing a multitude of challenges, from weather to traffic to community safety. High winds have prompted advisories, with reports of unsecured objects causing hazards. Motorists are urged to exercise caution due to the gusts.

In other news, local authorities responded to a public safety incident involving a vehicle and property damage. The incident occurred near Garrett Way and East Gould, with the vehicle eventually colliding with a building on North 2nd Avenue. The driver is facing potential DUI and drug charges, and is out on bond pending further investigation.

The Pocatello-Chubbuck School District is addressing safety concerns after a rumor of a threat caused Pocatello High to initiate a 'hall check'. The rumor was determined to be unsubstantiated, but school officials are proceeding with caution. The Board of Trustees is also focusing on budget issues and the role of AI in education, as well as the potential closure of Washington Elementary.

Ongoing road construction continues to impact commutes, particularly for those traveling through Inkom and on Mar Vista Drive. Drivers should anticipate delays and adjusted traffic patterns. However, improvements to pedestrian crossings on Main Street are planned for later this year. Community events include the Gate City Brewfest, a MomCo meeting, and fundraisers for CASA and the Idaho Foodbank.

Pocatello is buzzing with a mix of challenges and celebrations. Despite being ranked fifth in the nation for best-performing cities, the community faces significant hurdles, including budget cuts at Idaho State University. Forty-five positions are being eliminated as the College of Education merges with Arts and Letters, sparking concerns about the future of education in the area. Meanwhile, rumors of a Chick-fil-A continue to stir excitement, though the company has yet to confirm plans, and a new Raising Cane's has opened.

In brighter news, local athlete Breezy Johnson claimed gold in the downhill event at the 2026 Winter Olympics. The community is encouraged to celebrate this achievement amidst other local concerns.

Local law enforcement is investigating property crimes, including an incident involving a storage unit theft. Authorities continue to manage the aftermath of a fire at an apartment building on North Hayes. The ongoing closure of the Center Street Underpass is causing traffic disruptions, with detours expected to last for several weeks.

Looking ahead, residents can enjoy Valentine's weekend with a "Foam After Party" at the fairgrounds and a Crafters Market at Station Square. The ISU Jazz Fest is also scheduled. Raymond Knoff is the new chair of the School Board, so changes may be coming to District 25.

Local news includes a vehicle recovery after a reported incident where the vehicle was taken with a child inside. The vehicle was located, and the child was unharmed. Authorities are investigating.

The Pocatello-Chubbuck School District has new leadership following their January board meeting. The community is watching to see if this will address declining enrollment and budget concerns. A new Raising Cane's restaurant in Chubbuck is delayed past its tentative January 2026 opening.

In sports, the ISU women's basketball team defeated Montana State, and will play Weber State. Registration is open for Bannock Baseball and Girls Volleyball through the Parks and Recreation department.

Road construction continues to cause frustration, particularly the I-15/I-86 interchange and the Center Street Underpass project. The housing market remains sluggish, with high home values and mortgage rates. The city is holding a Housing Plan Public Meeting.

Upcoming weekend events include Moonlight Snowshoeing and ICCU Ski Free Day at the Mink Creek Nordic Center. The ISU Women's basketball team plays Weber State, and the Clydesdale Bar & Lounge, and the Old Town Actors Studio also host events. Idaho State Police are investigating a traffic incident that occurred on US-30 last Tuesday. A semi-truck trailer detached, resulting in a collision with another vehicle. The incident led to a temporary road closure while authorities conducted their investigation.

The Center Street Underpass project is back underway, causing significant traffic disruptions. The road will be fully closed for six weeks, then reduced to one lane for several months. Additionally, the Idaho Transportation Department is rebuilding I-15 structures in the Inkom Corridor, further impacting travel.

School District 25 has voted to close Washington Elementary School due to budget concerns and declining enrollment. Students will be transferred to Greenacres or Indian Hills Elementary. The decision has sparked community concern.

Conflicting real estate data presents an unclear picture of the Pocatello housing market. Sources vary on median sale prices and market trends. Ross Park Drive-In is reviewed. ISU Bengals basketball had a mixed week. Weekend events include a Chocolate Lover's Affair, ISU Women's basketball, a paint night, a drum making class, and Poke Fest at Zoo Idaho. A two-vehicle incident on I-15 southbound near Inkom caused a five-hour shutdown this past Saturday night. Authorities responded to the scene. Both drivers were transported to a nearby hospital. The incident serves as a reminder for drivers to exercise caution on the roads and prioritize safety.

The Bannock County Clerk's office is warning residents of ongoing jury duty phone scams. Individuals are posing as county employees and demanding payment over the phone. Residents should be aware that the county will never request payment in this manner and should disregard any such calls.

The Center Street Underpass is once again fully closed to traffic for construction, expected to last for six weeks. Following this closure, the underpass may open to one lane for a couple of months before closing fully again for another six weeks. The total project is not expected to be complete until late fall. Downtown businesses are encouraging people to navigate the detours.

The Pocatello-Chubbuck School District is holding a public hearing this Thursday, January 15th, to discuss enrollment, attendance areas, and potential school closures. Washington and Tendoy Elementary are under consideration for closure due to shifts in enrollment. The hearing will be held at Pocatello High School auditorium from 7 to 9 p.m.

Welcome to this week's Pocatello news. Several key events are happening in the community.

First, authorities responded to a two-vehicle traffic incident at North Arthur and West Clark. An individual was taken into custody. The community extends condolences to all those impacted.

On a brighter note, several new babies were born at local hospitals. One family received season tickets to Idaho State University football as a reward.

The official swearing-in ceremony for the Mayor-Elect and new City Council members is scheduled for Thursday. New members include Dakota Bates, Stacy Satterfield, and Ann Swanson. The city is also seeking public input for a grant application to improve the Upper City Creek trailhead with beginner-friendly loop trails and a skills loop. Comments are being accepted through January 15th.

Finally, the Center Street Underpass project has begun its final phase, which may cause traffic delays. The city suggests using the Benton Street Bridge or the West Gould Street Bridge as alternate routes. Pocatello's Highland High School received welcome news with a $36 million insurance settlement to fund the school's rebuild. The settlement, significantly higher than the initial offer, will cover construction, equipment, and installation costs. The first phase of the rebuild, including gyms and some classrooms, is expected to be completed in January 2027, with the auditorium following in the fall.

However, School District 25 is also grappling with challenges due to declining enrollment and associated budget cuts. The district may consider closing Washington or Tendoy elementary schools, and further staff reductions are possible.

In local happenings, a food truck called "The Poutine Plug" is attracting attention. This food truck specializes in poutine, offering both classic and creative variations. The truck's location is posted daily on social media, adding an element of adventure for poutine enthusiasts.

Recent high winds in Bannock County caused multiple traffic incidents involving semi-trucks on I-15. Authorities responded to eleven separate incidents where high winds caused the vehicles to tip over. Road crews worked through the night to address the incidents.

Pocatello High School was subject to a police investigation following a reported threat. Extra officers were dispatched to area high schools as a precaution. The threat was later deemed not credible, and School District 25 is now on winter break until January.

The city is preparing to begin the Center Street Underpass Project in early January, with an open house planned to inform residents about the upcoming construction. In more positive news, the Monte Vista to Pocatello Creek Road multi-use pathway is now complete.

In other news, The Yellowstone restaurant on West Bonneville was recently reviewed. The restaurant, located in a historic hotel building, offers an 'upscale casual' dining experience. Outgoing Mayor Brian Blad will deliver his final 'State of the City' address at the City Council meeting this Thursday, December 18th, highlighting the city's accomplishments and priorities. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

Early Sunday morning, police responded to a public safety incident near 2nd and Center Street where an individual was found with injuries. The individual was transported to the hospital, and an investigation is ongoing. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact them.

On Friday, December 12th, two separate water line breaks caused the closure of Hawthorne Middle School and Indian Hills Elementary. A 12-inch water main broke near Pole Line Road and Eldredge Road, flooding a power grid area and forcing the closure of Hawthorne Middle School. Later, a second water line broke on Cheyenne Avenue, leading to the evacuation of Indian Hills Elementary. Students were taken to the LDS Church building on Bannock Highway for reunification with their parents.

The I-15/I-86 interchange project is expected to be completed in August 2025. Remaining tasks include completing the new southbound-to-westbound ramp and finishing the Chubbuck Road underpass. A recent incident involved a semi-truck colliding with a traffic control vehicle on I-15, resulting in lane closures. Authorities urge drivers to exercise caution in work zones.

In other news, Buddy's Italian Restaurant received a positive review for its classic Italian-American cuisine. The ISU football team finished the season with a 6-6 record, while the women's basketball team is currently 5-4. Community events include 'Kurt Bestor Christmas,' 'A Christmas Carol,' and 'The Nutcracker.' Weather forecasts predict a week of rain and possible snow with unseasonably warm temperatures. The median listing price for a home in Pocatello is around $390,000, with average rents at approximately $1,100.

Pocatello is experiencing a period of change, with several key developments impacting the community. Mark Dahlquist has won the runoff election for mayor, signaling a potential shift in city policies after fifteen years under previous leadership. Dahlquist is advocating for zoning reform and increased housing options to address rising rent costs.

District 25 is implementing a new policy regarding cell phone usage in schools. The policy requires students to keep their phones turned off and out of sight during school hours, with limited access during lunch. While some support the policy as a way to reduce distractions and improve engagement, others raise concerns about limiting students' access to communication, especially during emergencies.

Traffic was significantly disrupted last week due to an incident on I-15. A commercial vehicle impacted a barrier, causing a seven-hour blockage and major delays for commuters. Authorities responded to the incident, and thankfully no injuries were reported. Residents are reminded to drive cautiously, especially with the current weather conditions, including wind and black ice.

The city also welcomes Liam Hughes as the new Animal Services Manager. Hughes brings experience in disaster response and animal cruelty investigations. He aims to focus on strengthening the bond between pets and people, and to address issues such as the feral cat population. Finally, authorities are asking for the public's help in the return of stolen hand-painted gnomes from a gravesite at Mountain View Cemetery.
